If you're unhappy with your current height, there's a way to increase it surgically. Although many individuals who have undergone this procedure claim that the time money and pain is not worth the 2-4 inches gained; others are very satisfied with the results. The procedure is very straightforward and is now nearly perfected. During the first surgical procedure, the doctor separates the patient's tibia and fibula in order to stretch them over a period of two months. An external device is fixed to the patient's tibia so that the patient can stand without putting pressure on the bones.

During the first couple of days, the pain is said to be almost unbearable; however, as the days pass by the patient actually gets used to the device. The doctor stretches the bones 2-3mm daily in order to achieve maximum height gain within a couple of months. After the bones have been completely enlarged, there is another surgical procedure performed in order to extract the Ilizarov device. The patient must use a wheelchair for a few days after the procedure is complete in order to diminish the risk of an injury. Although this whole procedure is very costly, at around $20,000, many people pay for it. The whole procedure takes 6-8 months on average and carries some risks of complication.
